Current and Prospective Methods for Assessing Anti-Tumor Immunity in Colorectal Cancer

چکیده
Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains one of the deadliest malignancies worldwide despite recent progress in treatment strategies. Though immune checkpoint inhibition has proven effective for a number other tumors, it offers benefits only small group CRC patients with high microsatellite instability. In general, heterogenous cell groups tumor microenvironment are considered as major barrier unveiling causes low response. Therefore, deconvolution cellular components highly heterogeneous microenvironments is crucial understanding contexture cancer. this review, we assimilate current knowledge and studies examining anti-tumor immunity CRC. We also discuss utilization novel assessment methods that have not been used research to date.

"Flagellated" cancer cells propel anti-tumor immunity
The use of innate immune receptor agonists in cancer therapies has suffered from many drawbacks. Our recent observations suggest that some of these hurdles can be overcome by introducing flagellin into tumor cells to promote tumor antigen presentation by dendritic cells (DCs) and simultaneously trigger two types of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs).
متن کاملRadiotherapy Effects on Anti-Tumor Immunity: Implications for Cancer Treatment
Ionizing radiation (IR) is a powerful therapeutic modality for cancer, commonly used for its capacity to kill cancer cells. In this Frontiers Research Topic Book radiotherapy effects are re-visited, from the point of view of the host’s immune system (IS). An introductory article from Golden et al. (2012) examines the consequences of the many types of radiation-induced tumor cell death and how t...
متن کاملParity improves anti-tumor immunity in breast cancer patients
Compared to nulliparous women, parous women have an up to 50% lower lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. An endogenous mechanism to prevent the development of cancer is the destruction of tumor cells by T cells that recognize tumor-associated antigens (TAA). Since a number of TAA are also highly present in the breast and placenta of pregnant women, we investigated the induction and charac...
متن کاملNonsense-Mediated mRNA Decay Impacts MSI-Driven Carcinogenesis and Anti-Tumor Immunity in Colorectal Cancers
Nonsense-mediated mRNA Decay (NMD) degrades mutant mRNAs containing premature termination codon (PTC-mRNAs). Here we evaluate the consequence of NMD activity in colorectal cancers (CRCs) showing microsatellite instability (MSI) whose progression is associated with the accumulation of PTC-mRNAs encoding immunogenic proteins due to frameshift mutations in coding repeat sequences. Inhibition of UP...
متن کاملGene therapy of cancer: induction of anti-tumor immunity.
Many malignancies lack satisfactory treatment and new therapeutic options are urgently needed. Gene therapy is a new modality to treat both inherited and acquired diseases based on the transfer of genetic material to the tissues. Different gene therapy strategies against cancers have been developed. A considerable number of preclinical studies indicate that a great variety of cancers are amenab...
